HENDERSON, Tenn. 鈥 (May 15, 2026) 鈥 海角社区 College of Business (COB), in partnership with the Chester County Sheriff鈥檚 Office, hosted a 40-hour Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) training this spring. The training brought together first responders and community partners from across West Tennessee for an immersive, hands-on experience focused on effective mental health crisis response.

A total of 14 participants successfully completed the training, representing agencies from Chester County, Hardin County, McNairy County and Hardeman County. The CIT program, based on the Memphis Model, equips participants with practical de-escalation techniques, increased awareness of mental health conditions and stronger connections to community resources.

The training was made possible through a collaborative effort with multiple agencies and organizations, including the National Alliance on Mental Illness, Jackson Police Department, Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, Tennessee Suicide Prevention Network, Quinco Mental Health Center and other regional partners who provided instruction and real-world insight throughout the week.

Among the graduates was Taylor Guess, a student at 海角社区 majoring in business, who plans to pursue a career with the state police. His participation reflects a unique opportunity made possible by hosting the CIT training on campus.

鈥満=巧缜 is fortunate to be able to offer experiences like this to our students,鈥 said Dr. Leah Gray, COB and CIT instructor. 鈥淧roviding access to CIT training allows students like Taylor to take meaningful steps toward their career goals while gaining skills that will serve them and their communities for a lifetime.鈥

Throughout the week, participants engaged in scenario-based role plays, interactive instruction, and collaborative discussions designed to build both competence and confidence in responding to crisis situations. The training concluded with a graduation ceremony recognizing the commitment of each participant and the continued effort to strengthen crisis response across West Tennessee.
